Brief author info: Ai Qing (1910-1996) Chinese poet. (Ai Ching; pseudonym of Jiang Haicheng) Known for socially conscious works; first collection of poetry, Ta-yen-ho, brought fame; joined Communists at Yenan (1941), became associate editor of the Communist People's Literature journal, and campaigned for Communist control of literature. In later years, became victim of Mao's Anti-Right-ist campaign during the "Hundred Flowers" period (1956-1957); accused of being a revisionist, was sent to state farm in desert area of Zinjiang for "rehabilitation." Returned to Beijing in 1975; works published again in 1978.
