In every historic catastrophe, in the decay of any nation, there have existed minorities which were there at the time and were not heard; great newspapers closed their doors to them; the great parties mocked them; their great enthusiasms were ironically observed and their solutions, the only ones possible, were ridiculed as impractical.

We consider progress as legitimate only when it reinforces, rather than undermines, freedom and democracy.
