To believe is to be strong. Doubt cramps energy. Belief is power.

You believe that easily which you hope for earnestly.

I believe because it is impossible.

What we believe about God is the most important thing about us.

I see myself as a man who is searching for meaning in life. This is rather different from being a staunch believer in something. A believer is someone who senses a consciousness or a direction and believes in it. The one who searches for meaning has not found the direction yet.

Do not believe what your teacher tells you merely out of respect for the teacher. But whatsoever, after due examination and analysis, you find to be conducive to the good, the benefit, the welfare of all beings-that doctrine believe and cling to, and take it as your guide.

As for belief, there are things that are as clear as the sky, yet men prefer to sit under an up-turned barrel.

Beliefs and convictions reach out from the past, and they cannot be altered by fervent desire alone. They possess their own logic and illogic, their own organic existence, their own rhythm of development.
