What is madness? To have erroneous perceptions and to reason correctly from them.

Madness is toxic and invigorating. It makes the sane more sane. The only ones who are unable to profit by it are the insane.

The discovery of phobias by psychiatrists has done much to clear the atmosphere. Whereas in the old days a person would say: 'Let's get the heck out of here!' today she says: 'Let's get the heck out of here! I've got claustrophobia.'

I doubt if a single individual could be found from the whole of mankind free from some form of insanity. The only difference is one of degree. A man who sees a gourd and takes it for his wife is called insane because this happens to very few people.

Why don't you have a right to say you are Jesus? And why isn't the proper response to that 'Congratulations'?

It is more comfortable to be mad and not know it than to be sane and have one's doubts.
